a Streaked Hosta Display Garden at our Eastford, Connecticut, Nursery

HOSTAS   The most popular perennial in the United States and the world today – and justly so, for several reasons.  They are almost indestructible and they multiply into large clumps that can be divided easily.  They come in a wide variety of sizes from as little as 1-2” up to 3’ tall and 6’ wide.  There are thousands of varieties from blues, greens, and golds to beautifully variegated forms.  Many have beautiful and very fragrant flowers.  Finally, they grow in the shade, 1/3 to 2/3 sun, and some can even grow in full sun in humus rich soil.  Many people grow them in pots and display them on patios, decks, stairs, walkways, etc. as well as in the garden.  They are incredibly hardy and can be grown from zones 4-9.  (above left H. We have added many small and mini/dwarf hostas because many people prefer them to use in troughs, mixed pots, smaller gardens and even to plant between large hostas for textural contrast and borders.  Please check our New Mini Hosta Section for a listing of just our dwarf and small hostas!   New for 2014 'Virginia Reel' left; at right is Mini 'Sparkler' pics courtesy Walters Gardens

Come Visit and enjoy a picnic in the midst of our many display gardens!  At left,  another Streaked Hosta Garden.  VFN introduction H. 'Fire Dancer' in front.
